The Chesapeake Energy School of Business at Oklahoma Wesleyan University is dedicated to equipping students with the tools they need to thrive in the professional world. One of its most impactful programs, the Pareto Group, is doing just that—preparing ambitious students for career success through networking, internships, and hands-on leadership experience.

A Launchpad for Success

The mission of the Pareto Group is simple yet powerful: helping students build a professional network that informs and supports them throughout their college years and beyond. More than just an academic program, it serves as a stepping stone for students looking to maximize their business education.

“The Pareto Group is more than a class; it’s a launchpad for future success.”

“Through invaluable internship opportunities, insightful speakers, and dynamic networking connections, students gain the tools necessary to excel in their careers,” said Sophomore, Nehemiah McFrederick. Members of the Pareto Group benefit from weekly guest speakers—leaders from various industries who share insights, guidance, and real-world experiences. Additionally, students are encouraged to go beyond the classroom through internships with major companies, including ConocoPhillips, Phillips 66, NASCAR, EY, the OKC Thunder, Hobby Lobby, and Chick-fil-A. These opportunities give students a competitive edge as they step into the workforce.

Servant Leadership in Business

At the core of the Pareto Group is a commitment to servant leadership—a principle deeply embedded in OKWU’s business education. Members of the program are required to complete 20 hours of off-campus community service each semester, putting their leadership skills into practice by giving back to the community. Organizations like BeTheLight and other service initiatives provide students with firsthand experience in leading with humility and integrity.

“Integrating servant leadership principles into business education helps students actively live out the concepts they’re learning in class,” said the program’s leadership. The emphasis on service not only strengthens students’ character but also enhances their ability to lead ethically in their future careers.
