The Office of Academic Affairs at Oklahoma Wesleyan University is pleased to welcome three new faculty members for the 2024-2025 academic year. Two new faculty members are Markel Porter (music) and Laura Franks (mathematics).
“We are excited to have these highly qualified educators join our team here at OKWU,” said Keri Bostwick, provost. “Not only are they gifted teachers who will bring experience and skill to the classroom, but all three will help us fulfill our mission of advancing the Kingdom of Jesus!”
- Laura Franks is joining the faculty as an instructor of mathematics. Franks earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Texas Tech University. She believes one of the most important things she can do as a teacher is to help students develop confidence and believe they can be successful.
- Markel Porter is the assistant professor of music for OKWU’s School of Education and Humanities. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Pittsburg State University. Previously, she was on the faculty of Coffeyville Community College from 2018-2024. Prior to beginning her teaching career, she performed as a soloist, worked in music retail for 14 years, conducted private lessons, and has performed in several operas with the Tulsa Opera Chorus. Porter is a member of the National Music Educators Association and the American Choral Directors Association.
Join us in welcoming these new educators to OKWU!
