The students and faculty of the Oklahoma Wesleyan University Digital Cinema and Media Design Programs held their annual Film & Design Showcase Tuesday evening, May 2, on the OKWU Bartlesville campus.
Students shared their best work, including documentary films, short films, photography, graphic design, and music videos. A reception was held afterward featuring a photography exhibit.
This year, OKWU launched the new Digital Cinema Degree program which prepares students for careers in the dynamic growth area of video and film production.
“Today there is no more powerful communication medium than video. Well over a million videos are added every day to video sharing sites like YouTube and Vimeo and video has also become the preferred medium of all social networks. It is a communication revolution equivalent to the advent of the printing press. OKWU’s goal is to create leaders and cultural influencers in this realm.” said Digital Cinema Professor, Evan Hewitt.
The following students were honored: Best of Show Graphic Design: Maggie Wince; Promising Filmmaker Award: Jonathan Coleman, Laurelyn Bettis, and Jimmie Koons; Best of Show Film Editing: Andrea Drake; Best of Show Film Production: Kariny Delahaye, Jonathan Zapata, Marianna Ortiz, Jason Atao, CJ Ross, Alyssa Willetts and Rachel Fetting; Best of Show Cinematography: Ashton Peterson and Andrea Drake; Innovation in Communication for The Sideline Report: Alyssa Willetts and Karen Rodriquez; Excellence in Storytelling: Alyssa Willets; Best of Show Photography: Ashton Peterson and Karen Rodriquez.
“In the marketplace today, no organization can survive and thrive without the direct touchpoints and messaging that film and media alone can provide,” said Dr. Brian Epperson, Dean of the Chesapeake Energy School of Business at OKWU. “The game of marketing, promotion, and messaging has forever changed. As a result, we have coupled film and media within the business school to leverage a powerful message medium that will be indispensable to tomorrow’s organization. We are committed to training our students to engage audiences with skill and excellence and do so with an intent on making an impact in whatever vocation our students choose to pursue.”
