Internships Create Opportunities
Every digital media marketing student is required to do an internship in their field. It’s amazing to see how much the students grow in their skills and in confidence during these semester-long internships. In addition to the fantastic real-world experience, they also receive 3 credits for the internship. It often leads to a job after graduation!
Curriculum Revised in 2023
The digital marketing industry is constantly changing with the development of new media, technology, and design trends. We strive to keep pace with this continual change by revising our curriculum regularly while remaining grounded in the artistic principles that have governed the arts for hundreds of years. We prayerfully consider how to incorporate changes in the industry into our curriculum so that we can offer our students the highest quality education.
In-Demand Job Skills
Develop your skills in your areas of interest and prepare yourself for an ever-changing field. Learn to use the industry-standard software such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects, and Dreamweaver to create digital designs and layouts. You also will learn how to use film and photography equipment to round out your skillset and give yourself the flexibility coveted by so many employers today.

The faculty in the Communications department have Master of Fine Arts degrees in their fields. They also have real-world experience as marketers, artists, designers, and business owners. In addition to teaching here at OKWU, they keep their skills current by working with clients to create effective brands and web designs.
Featured Core Classes
Digital Media Marketing
If you’ve ever wondered how a business creates their digital strategy, this class is for you. We cover everything from TikTok and Instagram to websites and SEO. You’ll learn to create an effective, cohesive, and impactful digital presence.
Identity Strategy and Design
In this class, you’ll create a brand from start to finish. You’ll start at the very beginning with the tagline, target audience, vision, and logo and carry it through to the product design, website, and in-store experience. We’ve had students use their class projects to start real business and nonprofits that they still run today.
Capstone and Portfolio
Every senior in our program takes the Capstone and Portfolio class. Over the course of the semester, they each create a capstone project in their field. We’ve had students create magazines, clothing lines, short films, comic books, and more. Then, at the end of the semester, we have the Film and Design Showcase where students share their work with friends, family, and their OKWU community. It’s one of our favorite parts of the year! During the class, the seniors also learn how to put together a professional portfolio and resume, apply for jobs, and do well in interviews. We know that it can be scary to think about graduating and entering the workforce, and we want to equip them to be comfortable and confident as they move out into the world after OKWU.
