Description

The Academic GA works to execute practical tasks for Academic Affairs. This position requires a friendly, pleasant personality, diplomacy and tact, the abilities to maintain confidentiality, work independently, prioritize, and organize, engage in strategic planning, project management, and the capacity to complete tasks with limited oversight and independent judgment. Computer skills and attention to detail are essential. This position also requires flexibility in hours worked.

Supervision Given or Received

Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Administrative Specialist to the Provost with general supervision by the Associate Provost.

Education Requirements & Qualifications

  1. A personal and vital Christian faith consistent with the mission of the university
  2. A bachelor’s degree and/or working on a master’s or equivalent training and experience
  3. Significant computer literacy
  4. A record of successful work experience in an academic setting is preferred

Examples of Work Performed

Administrative Tasks:

  • Assist Administrative Specialist to the provost by fostering efficiency in the office of the Provost/VPAA by maintaining the systems, answering telephone calls, scheduling meetings, preparing documents, completing reports/projects, and drafting business correspondence
  • Assist Associate Provost or Administrative Specialist by providing practical help for OKWU’s commencement and convocation services, along with all ENGAGE events
  • Lead student workers to accomplish tasks as assigned by Associate Provost and Administrative Specialist
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Provost/VPAA

 

     Retention:

  • Alongside ACE and PATH directors, develop and implement academic coaching initiatives
  • Work with Associate Provost and Administrative Specialist to collect and analyze academic and co-curricular retention data
  • Oversee student care initiatives for the academic team

Reinforcement of Academics:

  • Aid instructors in marking and providing feedback on student papers as assigned by dean with permission from the Associate Provost or Administrative Specialist
  • Proctor classes, tutor, grade and/or TA for classes as assigned by dean with permission from the Associate Provost or Administrative Specialist

Reinforcement of Programs:

  • Conduct department research and analyzing data, including but not limited to student data that would affect recruitment or retention.
  • Assist with general education and program assessment

Other Responsibilities:

  • Attend faculty meetings as needed
  • Take minutes at meeting for accreditation and assessment evidence
  • Assist academic team with various projects, events, and meetings as assigned

Requirements for GA:

  • Registered and enrolled in an OKWU graduate degree
  • Good academic record with a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Record of leadership ability
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Good written and verbal communication
  • Significant computer literacy
