This position is responsible for the instruction and supervision of students in the School of Education & Humanities and the School of Health & Sciences.
This position requires the integration of faith and learning with a biblical worldview. A successful candidate must demonstrate excellence in pedagogy and planning and have expertise in the supervision of educational practitioners. A successful candidate must be able to work independently and collaboratively on individual and school goals.
Evidence of commitment to the integration of Christian faith and living with the theory and practice of education is expected. A personal and vital Christian faith is required; a connection to The Wesleyan Church or one of the many denominations comprising the historic Wesleyan-Armenian tradition is preferred.
Supervision Given or Received:
Work is performed under the general supervision of the Dean of the School of Education & Humanities and the Dean of the School of Health & Sciences and ultimately reports to the Provost.
Position Summary:
The Schools of Education & Humanities and Health & Sciences are currently seeking candidates for the position of Professor of Physical Education and Exercise Science. This position would work with both schools to prepare students for health, physical education, and/or exercise science-related careers in either a school setting or the public sector. These degrees include Health and Physical Education, Exercise Science Fitness Specialist, Exercise Science Pre-Therapy, and Exercise Science Sports and Recreation Leadership.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Protect and advance the mission and vision of OKWU;
- Teach courses at the undergraduate level in physical education and exercise science;
- Supervise internships as necessary;
- Collaborate with university members to recruit, retain, and refine students in the fields of Physical Education and Exercise Science;
- Advise undergraduate physical education and exercise science students;
- Attend professional development opportunities and university community service opportunities;
- Represent the needs of the department by serving on committees;
- Maintain office hours to engage with students and advisees;
- Write curriculum and develop programs in exercise science;
- Other duties assigned by the dean.
The standard teaching load is 24 credit hours of undergraduate courses per year.
Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must have an earned Master’s degree in Health and Physical Education, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physical Therapy, Strength and Conditioning, Sports Management, Sports Administration, or other related degree from an accredited institution. Candidates must be willing to work toward a terminal degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
Candidates with an earned terminal degree in the above-listed fields will be given priority. Higher education experience is desired, but not required, for this position.
