Last weekend’s graduation festivities marked the end of the Spring 2024 semester at OKWU.
More than 80 graduates received their degrees at Saturday’s Commencement ceremony. On Friday night, graduates and their families gathered together for the Celebration Service, where the 2023-24 faculty and student awards were given out.
Throughout last week, each of the four schools held their own events, including the School of Education’s Commissioning Ceremony, the Department of Nursing’s Pinning Ceremony, and the Chesapeake Energy School of Business’s Senior Reception.
“The accomplishments of our students are remarkable,” said Dr. Jim Dunn. “They have been well equipped and trained by our outstanding faculty. Each is ready to leave OKWU to do what we pray our graduates continue to do daily – advance the Kingdom of God, no matter what and no matter where.”
2023-24 Faculty Awards
The Office of Academic Affairs at OKWU presented two awards at Friday’s Celebration Service. Dr. Jerome Van Kuiken received the Excellence in Teaching Award, and Dr. Kelley Sells received the Promising Teacher Award.
OKWU’s Student Development department also gave out several awards. Dr. Jonathan Ensor received the Faculty Member of the Year honor. Two individuals were named as Staff Members of the Year: Aaron Bunker, the Director of PATH Development, and Melissa Little, the Office Manager for the Department of Nursing.
Student Honors
Graduating senior James Reid received the Eagle Scholar Award, presented annually by the Office of the President at OKWU.
Connor Walcher and Alyssa Fowler were named Junior Marshals for Commencement.
Kylie Bostwick was awarded the Joe Straight Servanthood Award, given out by the Student Development team.
Stefan Cvetanovic and Andjela Micunovic received Athlete of the Year honors from the athletics department.

“Our graduates leave today as ones sent to Advance the Kingdom of God,” said Dr. Keri Bostwick, provost. “They studied with peers, stretched their minds, and satisfied the academic requirements for their degrees. Today is about celebrating our graduates and their educational achievements, of course, but most importantly, it is about celebrating the grace and goodness of God and thanking Him for His guidance in our lives.”
