2022-2023 Athletics Highlights

New Altitude for OKWU Eagles

Shawn Woods, head coach of OKWU softball, earned his 100th career win last spring. Woods, who completed his third season with the program, led the Lady Eagles to a 39-18 record.

Kirk Kelley, OKWU baseball coach and athletic director, earned his 850th career NAIA victory last season. Kelley and the Eagles went 38-16 in the spring 2023 season.

Natalia Quiroz qualified for the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships after completing the 3000M in 10.20.8, which set an OKWU record by 34 seconds.

Men’s basketball standout Kaleb Stokes surpassed the 1500 point mark for his career. The forward was an All-KCAC Second Team selection and an NAIA All-American Honorable Mention.

OKWU wrestlers Kolby Encinas and Donte Lopez qualified for the NAIA Men’s Wrestling National Championships, held in Wichita, Kansas in March.

Banner Year for OKWU Volleyball

Tracie Gillette (’98), head coach of OKWU volleyball, recorded her 250th win as coach of the program during the historic 2022 campaign. The Lady Eagles posted a 34-3 record, the best in program history.

6th National Championship

OKWU Croquet, led by first-year coach Steve Fisher, won the 6th national championship in school history. The duo of Stanley Fisher and Leina Casimir outscored their opponents 59-20 during their first-place finish.
