As Texas begins the recovery process in Hurrican Harvey’s aftermath, OKWU staff, faculty, and students are busy finding ways to provide effective assistance to those impacted.
Several OKWU students were affected by the storm, and the University’s first response is to begin by concentrating efforts on these students and their families, offering our prayers, support, and ourselves as recovery begins.
As with any major crisis, one of the most practical needs is financial assistance for the professional crisis teams already in place working to help the areas most affected. To that end, OKWU Women’s Soccer is donating all gate sales from Friday’s game to hurricane relief. OKWU Founders Bookstore is also set to take donations from the campus community.
For those interested in financially supporting recovery who can’t make it to campus, OKWU Vice President of Student Development, Kyle White, encourages the community to donate to the Wesleyan Emergency Relief Fund. This fund is “a trusted source whose efforts are well-targeted and have a long-term perspective for the people helped” said White. As the intial crisis moves into the recovery phase, OKWU’s Student Development team will continue to assess the best ways to serve our Texas neighbors, both financially and through the skills and talents the OKWU community has to offer on the ground when needed.
